We were on our way back. The water never looked so clear and the smell of the sea was filling my nostrils. I was the captain of the SS. Irish Dog. Me and 30 other crew members just found the treasure from the previously undiscovered island in the northern Indian Ocean. We named the island Hukubukali, because it sounded super sweet. I lost 2 crew members due to the man eating plants that were on the island. I really miss those guys, but that's what life is like when you live on the sea.
My crew members were singing and drinking when the waters started to get rough. My co-captain , Michael, started yelling to barren down the hatches, or something, I didn't know what he was talking about. I figured out something was wrong when I saw a tenicle come over the starboard side of my ship and grab one of my crew members, and pulled him overboard. Then 9 more tenicles came from all around the ship. Many of the crew members were trying to get to the lower cabin to get away. Pieces of my ship were being ripped off as the Giant Squid was attacking the ship.
I grabbed my harpoon and shot the giant squid in one of his tenicles. It just made him madder as he continued to rip my ship into pieces. My co-captain, Michael, courageously jumped on the Giant Squid and punched it right in the eye. The squid let my ship out of his clutches and descended back into the deep waters. I owe Michael everything, he saved the crew, and helped us all get back to land. Well except for the one that got pulled overboard, sadly he was lost at sea.
When we got back to land, we split up the treasure between the crew, and repaired the ship. After many years at sea, I turned the captain duties over to my brother, and my co-captain, Michael.
So when you see the SS Irish Dog coming to your harbor, be sure to salute the hero and captain of the ship. Thank you, Michael for your bravery!

Life Isn't Good Right Now For An Elf
When elves are growing up, their mothers and fathers prepare them for a life of toy making. They will live their lives as Santa's little helpers. There isn't much more you can do when you are an elf. For a long time, elves had it good because their little hands are the only ones that can put the small parts in the toys. With the current economy, life as an elf has not been going too well.
Nowadays, life as an elf is much harder than just sticking to the 4 basic food groups of candy, candy canes, candy corn, and syrup. The economy has hurt many of the toy making jobs at Santa's workshop. Parents are buying less toys for their kids because they have less money. Since there's less of a need for toys, there's less of a need for elves. Over 5,000 elves have been laid off in the past 2 years; that's a 7% drop in workforce. Also, many of their homes in the North Pole are going into foreclosure because of lack of money, and not many people want to live in the North Pole. Sadly, many of them are being forced out of jobs that they've doing for over 400 years. Some have even volunteered to stay on without pay because they don't know how to do anything else.
Many elves have come to America to find that there's not much work for them here. Some got jobs working for the auto industry to find out that they are being laid off from there, also. The elves are finding out more and more that America doesn't have much use for elves.
Santa has said that when the economy starts rising again, that the elves will be rehired. Unfortunately, we are just unsure when that's going to be. So if you see an elf on the street, give them some candy. Its the least you can do for someone who has it so bad right now. I'm sure that when they get the chance, they will build you a fantastic toy that you will find under your Christmas tree. So be sure to show the love to an elf during this holiday season. A simple thank you for their many years of dedicated work should suit them just fine.
